I work across government pushing teams to care about the needs of the people they’re serving through and by design. I do this by asking hard questions to help teams know whether they’re working on solving the right problems and solving the problems right.

As a designer of some of the most important research done in design in voting and elections administration, I’ve focused understanding challenges for underserved voters. I conducted seminal research on ballot design and instructions, voter information and education, and forms design. Mapped the U.S. voter experience. Findings from this research changed how people think about voters and voter behavior.

In my work with government, it has become clear that there isn’t enough design literacy. So, I’ve developed approaches for building design capacity within government, including project-based training and basic guidance and tools for DIY design that people love to use.

I’m at my happiest when I’m working on audacious goals to chip away at wicked problems.
